MUST WATCH: Buster Keaton by Quadron

/ 30.5.10 /

This music video is literally an eye candy! With it's vibrant colors and avant-garde clothes, every frame would pass as a fashion spread in Pop or Love Magazine. It seems that the Danish duo, Quadron, shows consistency with their music and videos. The director Tracemaker did a fantastic job in creating this awesome music video which I consider as a stylish performing arts.

I love the paper couture, i love the captions, i love the idea. I can marry this music video! And the song is as stylish as the video. Love love love!

MUST LISTEN/WATCH: Vampire Weekend

/ 28.5.10 /

After Joe Jonas appeared in 'Giving Up the Gun' music video, the last thing that Vampire Weekend would do is to appear in a Twilight movie soundtrack and boy they did it.

The band leaked the track entitled Jonathan Low online and it's surprisingly good.  I thought they would contribute a spill off tracks that didnt make to any of their albums but this one is passable.

WTF: OK Go Underwater Performance

/ 25.5.10 /

Effort!! OK GO knows exactly how to make themselves look geeky in a cool kind of way. Just like this underwater stunt they made at the Maker Faire 2010 in San Mateo, California last week.

They created a make-shift tank thingy where Damien sang from inside and the other members put a fish bowl with water on their heads. I have always been entertained with their music videos and his performance could have been fun to watch live.

Here's one of their performances from the fair.

MUST LISTEN: The Kiss by Pallers

/ 24.5.10 /

Over the weekend, me and my friends went to Batangas for a much needed break to condition ourselves for the upcoming deadlines and tons of workload waiting for us in our desks. Not for me though, I was still following up some pull-out requests and photo shoot stuff so basically I was still working.

To the main reason for this  post, I just discovered this song from the long list of my newly downloaded music and fell in love with it instantly. The Kiss is totally unexpected for me. When the intro hit my eardrums, i thought it was just a regular dreamy, shoegazerish track which I usually love only because of their style and melody. But with this song, it's kind of different. The slow build up of multi-layered instrumentation is a total cliffhanger. Then the dreamy vocals started to sing about a kiss, someone else's eyes and all this sweet stuff which put me into a cheezy mode and I started imagining singing this song to someone. Going back, I thought it'll just stay that way- that calming, endearing state where all stoned people would love to go. But as the song goes, it unfolds into a more head-nodding track leaving me with a slight hangover. After the first listen, I had it on repeat and it became the official soundtrack of my weekend.

In the Labrador Records site, Pallers' sound is described as a "dance music for the lazy, the blazers and for the slightly depressed." True enough, The Kiss sings about an unrequited love and all that sh8t that's why i hate to love it! Johan AngergÄrd, you know where to hit me! Take a listen to the track and you can download it here.

MUST LISTEN: Say My Name by Holy Ghost!

/ 21.5.10 /

Holy Ghost! is a true testament that music is an entity that transcends from one era to another. This particular track, Say My Name, has that mid-80's disco vibe infused with modern play on synthesizers. I love how it sounds like a track from the past but still the relevance of its musicality is so present. I am so excited with this NY-based duo and I am sure DFA wouldn't sign them up for nothing. Their Static on the Wire EP is due early this June.

BAND CRUSH: Turbo Goth

/ /

Urbandictionary.com defines Turbo Goth as a type of nu-goth or cyber goth that dances like a robot, wears cyberdog clothes and waves glowsticks. In my dictionary, Turbo Goth is an electro pop act that dances crazily, wears stylish clothes and their sound is glowsticks wave-worthy.

Turbo Goth's brand of electro pop is hypnotic, catchy and effortless to hear. Although their name implies dark and gothic, their sound has that hope-for-the-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel effect. Don't be fooled by Sarah Gaugler's tattoos and Amy winehouse eye liner, she sings beautifully and dreamy which reminds me of Kathy from Daydream Cycle. The other half of this hip band, Paolo Peralta, enters my stylish guys list with his Londoner style. I love how he put things together and his effort in presenting himself stylishly even in this hot weather. You gotta watch them live. Their crazy performance will blow you away and you'll thank God for making you a human and not a stage or a musical instrument coz these guys can go crazy.

They were used be under Lilystar Records but the website says Turbo Goth's contract has expired and no words yet if they're signing up another one. Hmm...Well for now, you can enjoy this music video of their first single 'Morning Swin' and you'll see why Turbo Goth is a major Band Crush.

BAND CRUSH: Braids

/ 6.5.10 /

If Stars would sing Animal Collective, they'd sound like Braids (not to be confused with the 90s emo band Braid). I am digging their shoegaze, dreampop sound with an experimental kick. Stereogum is right when they compare Braids to Velocity Girl but more baroque especially in this particular song Lemonade.

After shedding sweat, tears and almost losing all our blood in producing this fantastic new magazine, finally, it's coming out! Here are some snap shots of the printed copies of Monday Magazine hot off the printer.

Monday Magazine is a new publication for young, urban professionals of good taste. It covers nearly everything but concentrates in three areas- corporate culture, consumerism, and lifestyle. Isn't that smart enough? Well, you have to see it's cutting-edge design which our EIC pain-strickenly obsessed with to make it perfect. And when I say obsessed i mean the same definition as Merriam-Webster has. Every kerning and spacing are calculated, rivers are eliminated and every paragraphs and lines are balanced and measured! (ok, i have to stop there.) Perfectionist much? Yes. What's wrong in aiming perfection if you can try to make it possible, right?
