NEW MUSIC: Regent Court by The Get Up Kids
After nearly seven years of hiatus, The Get Up Kids will be releasing a new album called There Are Rules due on January 2011. Here's a jumpy new song Regent Court from the upcoming album. And with this kind of new direction, There Are Rules is on the list of my most anticipated albums of 2011.
MUST LISTEN: Elizabeth Fraser [Cocteau Twins Rework] by Star Slinger
I was reading some emails this morning and discovered this recommendation by someone unnamed. I guess he/she/it knows that I am a big fan of Cocteau Twins that's why he/she/it sent it to me. Thanks! I'm gonna give to Star Slinger for this awesome "remix" of Cocteau Twins' Heaven or Las Vegas. It's a totally different song now with Star Slinger's distinct heavy beats and R&B rythm. I dont know if other Cocteau Twins fans would approve, though. But for me, it's a two-thumbs-up.
MUST LISTEN: Crystalized(The xx cover) by Gorillaz or Blur?
I like it how the guest band/artist on the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge do cover songs and how they make it their own. The recent guest was the virtual superstars Gorillaz and they performed stripped-down versions of On Melancholy Hill and their new single Doncamatic. They also did a fantastic cover of The xx's Crystalized which sounded like Damon Albarn forgot that he's not singing for Blur coz it doesnt sound like Gorillaz at all.You can watch the whole performance below.

MUST LISTEN: By Your Side(Sade Cover) by Gayngs
Check out Gayngs' version of Sade's sexy hit By Your Side recorded during their Daytrotter session. I dont know if Gayngs name themselves like that because of their sexual orientation. But one thing is certain, this act is one of the best bands who came out this year. Gayngs consists of 23 members which includes the vocalist of Bon Iver, Justin Vernon.

BAND CRUSH: Knodazzi
One of the reasons why I put up this blog is to introduce unheard music/bands that are worth listening to. And because of this blog, I've received interesting music from bands from different parts of the globe that deserve a spot in everyone's ears. Perfect example of this is Knodazzi, an alternative rock duo based in Los Angeles. Their music reminds me of 90's acts that infuses different elements (soul, electro, synth and rock) which eventually became the 'alternative' sound. Euny's voice reminds me of Swan Dive's Molly Felder. It's not that powerful but enough to captivate your ears to continue listening from track 1 to 10. They just released their self-titled debut album and you can listen to its entirety below. I love the whole album but the stand out tracks are: Dreaming, Nowhere, Crash Code 001, Voices, and the heart-wrenching She Waits.
For more info about Knodazzi, you can stalk them via Facebook, Twitter, Bandcamp or their official website. Here's their first self-made/produced music video for the song Nowhere featuring Knodazzi’s mascot Scott Ma. ;)
MUST WATCH: Get Some by Lykke Li
MUST LISTEN: 4 New Robyn Songs
I know a lot of you love Robyn so much and I do too. But honestly, sometimes, I question her creativity. I mean, she has released so many Body Talks album and she just remixed most of the songs from it to include something to the next installment.
Finally, she will release the final chapter of the Body Talk series this month which is called, you guessed it right, Body Talk. It includes five remixed songs from Part 1, two remixed songs from Part 2 and another five NEW songs which includes Indestructible. I managed to have the other four of those new songs below for streaming.
Time Machine is definitely a single waiting to be released. It's one of the most commercial tracks from Robyn's Body Talk series. Call Your Girlfriend has that signature Robyn arrangement and play of emotion. You know she's in pain because of the lyrics of the song but at the same time she wants us to dance to it. In short, baliw! Stars 4-Ever and Get Myself Together are as pop as the former. It seems that Robyn saved all of the songs with commercial appeal for the final chapter.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
If you clicked this link because you thought that Heart in Your Heartbreak was the saddest song from a band that plays music with suicidal tendencies then you could be right but The Pains of Being Pure at Heart does it in a very subtle way. So subtle that you'll find yourself dancing by the time the first beat hits your eardrum and you won't notice that Kip Berman is singing about a girl who is the 'heart in your heart break/the mis in your mistake...she was the tear in your rainstorm/she was the promise that you never swore/and no matter what she said it's never gonna come back' :( . But no matter how painful the words are, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart made sure that it's still fun, sunny and all the adjectives that describe indie-pop. Heart in Your Heartbreak is the first single from their sophomore album Belong out on March 2011.
MIXTAPE SUNDAY: Goodbye NU107
Today's the last day on air of the only home of nu rock NU107 and Philippine radio will never be the same again without it. I am not a hardcore listener of NU, well not recently. But I must say, NU is one of the major influences that shaped my taste in music. It was NU who introduced me to an array of artists I never imagine I could discover in any other local radio stations. I can still remember the first time I saw Imago perform live in one of NU's Pocket Concerts and from then on, I became their biggest fan.
Since it's usually NU's Remote Control Weekend, I made a playlist of the songs that I used to request. It was a challenge to have these songs get played on air coz I had to dial and redial for a hundred times just to get in the telephone line. These are the songs that got my ears glude on NU because it's the ony radio station that played these first and probably the only one who had these on their playlist.
Mottaka - Cheese
Alay - Imago
Moonchild - Cibo Matto
Into the Night - The Music
Over And Over Again (Lost And Found) - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

NEW MUSIC: Ace of Hz by Ladytron
Hardcore synthpop group Ladytron will be releasing their first single after two years of hiatus! The title of the song is Ace of Hz which you can stream below. It's not yet confirmed if it's going to be part of their Greatest Hits or their new album but the single will be out on November 30. Ace of Hz also appears in the EA Sports soccer game FIFA 11.
MUST LISTEN: Death Before Disco (Turn It Up To Eleven) by Nightbus
The Halloween has passed and this song by Nightbus could have been a great dancefloor anthem during those costume parties. Death Before Disco (Turn It Up To Eleven) so far is my favorite track from Nightbus. It's all out disco and pop with that hint of edginess on the side. Think of Alphabeat doing a Ménage à trois with Calvin Harris and Junior Senior. This is probably my disco track of the year.
