MUST WATCH: Go Outside by Cults

/ 25.2.11 /

This music video by Cults made me wish I was like this when I was still a teenage junkie. Nothing beats the feeling of teenage love affair especially if you're sweetheart was as good looking as Emma Roberts and Dave Franco, right?

MUST LISTEN: Sadness is a Blessing (Acoustic) by Lykke Li

/ /

Sorry for the Lykke Li flood posts! I've been looping Lykke Li's new album Wounded Rhymes and one of the overplayed track is Sadness is a Blessing. I managed to find an acoustic version of the song which is equally awesome as the studio version. Listen here

BAND CRUSH: Orange Blossom Flyover

/ 23.2.11 /

The best way to discover new music is to constantly check my emails for bands submissions. Last night, i received an email from a one-man band from Massachusetts, USA which he call himself Orange Blossom Flyover. His music is a mixture of shoegaze, dreampop, new wave and little bit of electro. I can hear Trembling Blue Stars, Blueboy and Cocteau Twins doing a modern comeback with M83 in his repertoire. Super love! For more info about this awesome act, you can check his MySpace, Facebook and Bandcamp

Bat For Lashes Sings For Gucci

/ /

Bat For Lashes a.k.a Natasha Khan did a fantastic cover of Depache Mode's Strangelove for the upcoming Gucci Guilty For Him TVC. Last year, Friendly Fires did the same cover for Gucci Guilty for women commercial starring Evan Rachel Wood and Chris Evans. You can stream both versions below.

MUSIC VIDEO: Too Dramatic (aka Too Hipster) by Ra Ra Riot

/ /

This music video has too much hipsterisity going on that it made me feel so uncool about myself. Blech! Too Dramatic has to be my favorite track from Ra Ra Riot's The Orchard album but the music video is just blah. If youre into hipster imagery, this could be your own of Avatar.

MUST LISTEN: Love Out of Lust by Lykke Li

/ 21.2.11 /

It's official, I am now excited to hear the rest of Lykke Li's upcoming sophomore album Wounded Rhymes. She has been releasing amazing tracks to keep us excited. Love Out of Lust is by far my favorite song from the three tracks she released.

NEW ALBUM: The King of Limbs by Radiohead

/ /

One day earlier from the original planned release, The King of Limbs by Radiohead surprised the waiting crowd with electronic-driven album as opposed to the rumored organic-sounding one. I have nothing against this avant-garde direction. I actually loved it. Some say that it could pass as the sequel to their 2007 release In Rainbows and got nothing fresh to offer. Well we've expected a lot from them but The King of Limbs is not their worst record (meron ba?).

After looping the whole album for so many hours, I've decided that it will stay in that state I dont know til when. Codex and Give Up the Ghost  are the stand out tracks for me. These are probably the less electronic songs from the album and it's good to hear real instruments from this band coz they are better with that. You can download the whole album on the official website of Radiohead or you can just stream it here.

Here's the lead single from The King of Limbs. (Watch Thom York dancing like a stupid hasbeen)

MUST LISTEN: Forget That You're Young by The Raveonettes

/ 16.2.11 /

I don't know why this song gives me the chills every time I play it. Could be its bittersweet lyrics or its charming melody. But one thing's for sure, The Raveonettes' upcoming album Raven In The Grave is something to look forward to. (Pedophiles, this song's you)

MUST DOWNLOAD: I Remember EP by Yeasayer

/ /

In case you didnt know, Yeasayer released a free 3-track EP on Valentine's Day along with an accompanying video for the single I Remember. It seems that the band is rooting for more emotional songs than upbeat ones. You can download/send to someone the EP through the link on the embedded video and be obsessed with the song  as I am.

My Mediocre Photography Using Lumix LX3

/ /
Here are the first few shots that I took from my Lumix LX3. If my photography professor would see this post, he'd be ashamed of it. Yes, i had a basic background in photography (which is not obvious) and it's one of the subjects where i excelled the most...that was back in college. I was trained using a film SLR  Yeah right. Thanks to the auto mode of my Canon EOS 66, most of my home works had the right aperture and shutter speed. I never learned how to mix those two. I hated bracketing, F stops and flash bouncing. What I loved was our black&white lessons where i learned how to process films. I nearly died when i saw my first roll of films. It turned out just the way i pictured it.

My model was my friend Angela and I wanted to have a goth feel to the photos. Too bad i lost this roll. Anyway, going back to the main point of this post. Here are the first few shots that I took from my Lumix LX3:

PREVIEW: Black Iris feat Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino for MTV Exit

/ /
Here's the sneak peak to MTV Exit's latest music collaboration featuring Black Iris and Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino which will be released on the 14th of February.

"In an exclusive collaboration, MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) and music collective Black Iris featuring Best Coast’s lead Bethany Cosentino have partnered with leading global advertising agency, Y&R, to produce a music video which raises awareness of human trafficking. When Will I Feel Love hauntingly highlights the dangers and impact of trafficking for sexual exploitation, particularly of young women. The music video will premiere across MTV properties on-air and online around the world on February 14th 2011, and will be available to download on iTunes from the 14th February (see notes to editors for link). Proceeds for iTunes sales will be directed to anti-trafficking organisations working to rescue and rehabilitate victims of human trafficking.
When Will I Feel Love is the next music video in MTV EXIT’s series of collaborations, an innovative and creative approach, which fuses musical content and MTV’s pro social messaging on the dangers and impact of human trafficking.  As well as creating awareness of human trafficking for sexual exploitation, this music video also highlights how young women can so easily be deceived and consequently forced into trafficking.
The video will be seen across all MTV platforms in 161 countries, and has the potential to reach more than 640 million households worldwide.

The series launched in 2008 and has seen collaborations with influential leaders in rock music, creating compelling music videos that depict this growing issue to viewers around the world. Radiohead began the series with their award winning film All I Need...

followed in 2009 by The Killers with Goodnight, Travel Well.

2010 saw Muse partner with MTV EXIT to produce MK Ultra.

When Will I Feel Love is an animation by Edouard Salier, who has also directed music videos for Air, Massive Attack and Raphael Saadiq. The sound design has been produced by Brian Emrich of The Black Swan, Requiem of a Dream and The Wrestler fame. The original song was written exclusively by Black Iris featuring Bethany Cosentino of indie rock band, Best Coast, one of the most inspirational bands of 2010."

MUST WATCH: The Curve of Things Forgotten by Todde Cole for Rodarte

/ 10.2.11 /

Following the fashion film trend, fashion house Rodarte commissioned Todde Cole to direct a short film highlighting Kate and Laura Mulleavy's spring 2011 collection. The result is a surreal mise-en-scène starring Rodarte's current muse Elle FanningDeerhunter did a fantastic job in the scoring department.I love its dreamy music which adds up an eerie ambiance to the film. Watch the video below.

By the way,if you're not familiar with Deerhunter's music, here's one of my favorite songs from the band.

NEW MUSIC: Under Cover of Darkness by The Strokes

/ /

I literally waited for so many hours upon reading the news about the release of The Strokes' new single to be streamed and downloaded for free through the band's website for only 48 hours. Under Cover of Darkness is the lead single of the band's new album Angel, their recording after 5 years of hiatus as a group. We all know Julian Casablancas attempt to do a solo career but it seems that he's well fit with a band. Although I liked his electro-dance sound, Casablancas is just better in doing an all out rock music.Listening to Under Cover of Darkness is like revisiting The Strokes first album Is This It where their distinct 70s garage rock sound with modern pop influence helped them stood out. You can stream Under Cover of Darkness here on my blog or you can go to their official website and download it for free within 48 hours only.

Tea-bagging? Optional.

/ 7.2.11 /
This post is kinda late but I think I really have to do it coz I'm in love with the place. Maginhawa's humble tea place Moonleaf Tea Shop was officially launched last February 4 with a thanksgiving party and I realized that Starbucks is not everyone's cup of tea.The place is not your typical cafe with a big interiors and lavish  lounging area. What makes it a hit is their wide variety of cold tea concoctions. I (and everybody else) personally love Wintermelon Tea with pudding. I have yet to try the other beverages but as I've heard, anything on their menu is a must try. Moonleaf is always packed during weekends. The place is kind of small so if you want to have your own table and seats, it's best to go there during weekdays. They dont have wifi yet. But who needs wifi if you have your friends and Wintermelon tea, right?
