Is this going to be the new direction of the album? hmmm... cant wait! If you want to pre-order Dualist, check out the information below.

For now, you can just watch Taken by Cars performing Matter of Fact recorded in one of their gigs.

MUST LISTEN: Someone Like You (Adele cover) by Jamie Woon

/ 30.3.11 /

I am not so sure if i like Jamie Woon's version of Adele's Someone Like You. But since I am so into this song, Im going to post here and let you hear it. Thoughts?

MUST LISTEN: Is David Bowie Dying? by The Flaming Lips and Neon Indian

/ 25.3.11 /

Hot collab here! So hot, it's sold already sold out.

I don't know where to start but this hot collab between The Flaming Lips and Neon Indian is way too dark to describe. It's rock and chill-wave altogether which kinda sounds like a song from The Mars Volta. They pressed only 1,000 copies of the 12" and it's already sold out after days of release.

NEW MUSIC: Live Those Days Tonight by Friendly Fires

/ 23.3.11 /

I don't know if it's just me or the new song of Friendly Fires sounds like Rick Astley? Live Those Days Tonight is included in their much anticipated(?) sophomore album Pala to be released on May 16. I don't know what to expect from FF's comeback effort but I'm betting there's gonna be a 90's revival.

MUST LISTEN: You Know What I Mean by Cults

/ /
Cults might have teased their ever growing fans by releasing singles in installment basis but we can finally get a hold of their debut album under Columbia Records this May. But before that, the indie-poppers from NY released another song and I am obsessing over it! You Know What I Mean sounds like a single from a 60's girl group minus the chuwariwap part but I am totally digging the sound of it. It kinda reminds me of The Supremes' Baby Love but slower.

MUST LISTEN: Glockenspiel Song by Dog is Dead

/ 20.3.11 /

I saw Dog is Dead perform this on the season finale of Skins UK series 5 and fell in love with it immediately. Glockenspiel Song has that anthemic pop feel that you and your friends would sing together while having fun watching Dog is Dead. Judging by the looks of the members of the band, you'd thought that they are just another hipster buzz band that plays obscure, electro tinged music but these guys are more than that. Their sound are usually described as "an original blend of harmonious, indie-pop in the disco, with a cheeky jazz hint." I Couldn't agree more. Glockenspiel Song is a perfect tune to end one of the best episodes of Skins series. You can check the band's official website for more info about them.

Heartbeats: Ellie Goulding's attempt to cover José González' cover of The Knife's original

/ 17.3.11 /

Ellie Goulding seems enjoying covering songs than making her own music lately. After covering Elton John, Bon Iver, Temper Trap and Rihanna, here she is once again covering another song and this time, she murdered it! Heartbeats was part of The Knife's 2003 album Deep Cuts which José González did a fantastic cover in 2006 making it a heartfelt acoustic number.

Here's The Knife's original version.

Jose Gonzales reinterpreted the electro-pop and making it his own.

Belgian girls choir, Scala & Kolacny Brothers, made it sound like a gospel song...

And here you have Ms Goulding pushing the envelope of remaking by covering the cover of the song (tsss)...

Hate it or like it?

I've Seen The Whitest Boy Alive

/ 15.3.11 /

...and yes, they were all so white!

Indie-pop band The Whitest Boy Alive performed in Manila last March 12 and I was fortunate to see them perform live. The organizers turned Republiq into a party place for hipster crowd and mounted a stage which is not the usual set up of the club. It was the first time I went there that I enjoyed the people I was dancing/singing with. The set was awesome. TWBA performed most of my favorite songs from their albums especially 1517 and Burning. I have some videos of their performance but I'll be posting them soon for I have no time to wait for the uploads. Here are some photos from the gig ;)
Thanks to Kate Torralba and Manolito Roxas!!

MUST WATCH: ÜBerlin by R. E. M.

/ 10.3.11 /

The lolos are back with a brand new album Collapse Into Now and this rather melancholic first single ÜBerlin is R. E. M.'s answer to Radiohead's Lotus Flower music video. The clip features Kick Ass lead Aaron Johnson who seems like he was possessed by Thom Yorke

MUST WATCH: Conversation 16 by The National

/ 9.3.11 /
Conversation 16 is one of my favorite tracks from The Nationals' High Violet album. The music video features Mad Men star John Slattery and some other character actors Kristen Schaal and James Urbaniak. I dont know if I like the video but I love the song.

MUST WATCH: Recharge & Revolt by The Raveonettes

/ 8.3.11 /

Weee!! new music from The Raveonettes up coming new album Raven in the Grave to be released this April. The first single Forget That You're Young got a lot of raves from blogs and critics for having a more solid and focused sound which is a good introduction for what's expected in their sophomore album. Recharge & Revolt is another winner track. This time, it's Sune Rose Wagner's turn in the vocals department.

MUST LISTEN: Change of Pace by Young Minds

/ 6.3.11 /
A follow single from his first EP, Change of Pace is ,by far, Young Minds most compact song. He veered away from the synth-driven music which was evident through out Imago Images and created a more solid dreamy indiepop sound and hopefully the new direction for his upcoming album.

PHOTOSET: Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, Bataan

/ /

One of the things that I love about my job is I get to visit interesting places. This time, we visited a different kind of resort where the attractions are not white sand beaches and water slides. Instead, they recreated the architectural marvels of the18th to early 20th century Philippines and turned it into a tourist destination. I first saw Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar on the TV show Urban Zone and thought that it's a perfect location for a period film. True enough, the place was well designed and every details of architecture were true to its old-times Philippine references. Its like we literally traveled through time where Guardia Civils roamed around the plaza and people are in chinos and baro't saya. And yes, the staff and employees there were in costumes. Kundimans were blasting on their communal speaker that can be heard through out the resort. So if you're tired of Intramuros and you dont have enough budget to experience Vigan, Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar could be a perfect alternative. Check out their official site for more info.
