BAND CRUSH: Naked.

I've been obsessing with this new band from UK called Naked. the whole week and I think they deserve a separate post here. There's not much info about Naked. on the Internet as of the moment or at least about this band. Try googling 'Naked' and you'll see what I mean. They play this achingly beautiful dream pop music which sounds familiar but I couldn't find a reference to it.

The vocalist's eyes kind of remind me of Cocteau Twins' Elizabeth Fraser's...

BAND CRUSH: Astronauts, etc.

If Justin Vernon sings for The xx, it would sound like Astronauts, etc. but less boring. HE IS AMAZING! Thanks to my friend Jerry, I found his music from my spam mailbox amid the scam proposals and erectile dysfunction ads. Astronauts, etc or Anthony Ferraro IRL plays my kind of music- dreamy and melodic. No wonder he named his soon to be released debut EP Supermelodic Pulp out on September 8. I have the first two tracks from the EP below and you might want to plug in your ear/headphones for this for maximum aural pleasure.

MY LATEST FAVORITE BAND!!! Good Night Robot is a San Francisco-based band that plays amazing indie-pop/dreamy tunes perfect for my staycation!!! I have here their self-titled EP from last year and it's gohorjuhzzz! They will be releasing a full-length album this May so stay tuned for that here! Oh gad Good Night Robot, be my summer fling? :)

Lots of new music today and I think this is one of my faves so far. Sigur Rós is back from their hiatus with this ethereal song Ekki Múkk (no idea what it means) and gad, they sound recharged!

NEW MUSIC: Common Burn by Mazzy Star

Mazzy Star picks up right where they left off 15 years ago and releases new materials that will not disappoint any fans alike. Common Burn has their signature lazy, desert rock sound just the way I like it. Listening to this songs feels like the first time I heard Mazzy Star. I remember looping my burned CD of She Hangs Brightly in my dark room and pretending I was the most depressed senior high. *flash back* The single will be released on October 31 including the b-side track Lay Myself Down which you can also stream below ;)

MUST WATCH: Teenage Tide by Letting Up Despite Great Faults

One of the best bands in the shoegaze-indiepop category, Letting Up Despite Great Faults put us into nostalgia with their new video Teenage Tide. It has that "Teenage Dream" feel but this time, it's more like an orgy! lolol. There's nothing so WOW about this video but you gotta like the music. Anything from this band is a must listen! MUST LISTEN: Romantic Streams by Sleep ∞ Over

We've been hearing a lot of chillwave bands lately and it's one of the genres that I really enjoy listening to as of the moment. When I was starting to discover the whole "indie" music scene back in high school, I was first exposed to the shoegaze/dream-pop sub-genre and I instantly fell in love with it. I was addicted to Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, The Stone Roses, Dead Can Dance and Trembling Blue Stars. My point is, probably because of the shoegaze influence this whole chillwave movement has that's why it's a delight to discover new bands with such sound. Sleep ∞ Over, on the other hand, is influenced by the music of the aforementioned bands and I am beyond ecstatic listening to their new track Romantic Streams. What sets Sleep ∞ Over apart from the bands under the same category (aside from their weirdly placed symbol in their name) is the raw emotion behind the soft, synth-coated, dreamy sound. Their debut LP Forever will be out on the 27 of September so check their website for more deets!

BAND CRUSH: Arigato, Hato

I havent seen these guys perform live but i heard a lot of good things about em. Arigato, Hato (they are a Filipino band btw) plays a sweet brand of indie-pop with a lil shoegaze and electro elements. In short, my kind of music. I havent been going out to watch gigs that much lately and I think im missing a lot of awesome local indie bands. Shame on me! Anyhu, here are some sample tracks from Arigato, Hato that I'm hoping to watch soon. ;)

MUST LISTEN: Change of Pace by Young Minds

 A follow single from his first EP, Change of Pace is ,by far, Young Minds most compact song. He veered away from the synth-driven music which was evident through out Imago Images and created a more solid dreamy indiepop sound and hopefully the new direction for his upcoming album.  

BAND CRUSH: Orange Blossom Flyover

The best way to discover new music is to constantly check my emails for bands submissions. Last night, i received an email from a one-man band from Massachusetts, USA which he call himself Orange Blossom Flyover. His music is a mixture of shoegaze, dreampop, new wave and little bit of electro. I can hear Trembling Blue Stars, Blueboy and Cocteau Twins doing a modern comeback with M83 in his repertoire. MUST LISTEN: Tip of Your Tongue by Porcelain Raft

I don't expect my readers to agree in eveything I post on this blog. But this one is an exception and I want everyone who's reading this right now to agree with me that Tip of Your Tongue is one of the best songs I've featured.

If you're a big fan of Beach House, it's time to hit the stop button and make some room for another act that does justice to the genre that not everybody can pull off with class- dream pop. The culprit of this icy sound is Mauro Remiddi aka Porcelain Raft who managed to put all these layers of sounds and vocals by himself. He has already released 3 EPs but Tip of Your Tongue is his very first single that will be released this November under Acephale.

I've been listening to Porcelain Raft for quite some time now and Tip of Your Tongue (or Teeeep of your tongue as he sang it) is a good song to introduce him to a wider audience. Its hypnotic sound and catchy chorus can make a first time listener an instant fan.

BAND CRUSH: Youth Sounds

I get excited to post an entry every time I discover new music or artist that is worth sharing. Just like this new band from New Orleans called Youth Sounds. I received their 3-track EP The Bit Parts yesterday and up until I am still wishing that they'd send me more tracks. Coz like a sweet drug for a first time taker, I am wanting more and more.

Erika's voice is disarming as she whispers sweet music in your ears. Their music is moody and dreamlike but never loses a punch of edginess. It's like Sarah Mclachlan is singing the songs of Metric, Broken Social Scene, Stars and Club 8. Major love these guys.Check their MySpace for more info and to listen to their other track.

BAND CRUSH: Quiet Lights

Check out this Brooklyn-based band called Quiet Lights which is appropriately named to describe their sound. It's dreamy, airy and all that shoegazer appeal. We Live In Balloons is one of their strongest tracks from the upcoming debut which is being mixed by John Congleton (St Vincent, Explosions in the Sky). I have so much to say about this band but I'd rather let their songs speak for themselves. You can check out their tracks and download them for free here.
