My most favorite Cocteau Twins song! Though, i like the album version better. Elizabeth Fraser wrote this song as tribute to Jeff Buckley. He's a big fan of the poet Rilke.

Here's something to cool down our hot Manila summer. The Ice Choir gives us a taste of what we should expect from their debut LP Afar out July 31. I dont know if they can be considered as an 80's revivalists or what but Teletrips sounds like a new wave-ish R&B track. Sounds good to me :)

Alpaca Sports - Just for Fun

Swedish musician Andreas Jonsson just released his debut single under the moniker Alpaca Sports and hell yeah this guy knows how to have fun. In making music that is. Totally digging the summery vibe of this song. I'm actually making my second summer mixtape (hope i can post it soon) because of this track! BTW, the cover art for his single is made by the Japanese artist Ray Kimura. Thanks for sending this, Andeas!

POP ETC. - Halfway to Heaven

First time I heard this song I was like "Is this Another Level?" It has 90's all over it and I like it!!!! POP ETC is the same guys from the band The Morning Benders who decided to change their name because, apparently, the word ‘bender’ in the UK and many parts of Europe is a slang term for ‘homosexual' or equivalent of ‘The Morning Fags’ in America. Their official statement says,  We simply cannot go on using a name that is demeaning to the gay community. The reason we are making music is to reach and unite as many different kinds of people as possible, and the idea that our name may be hateful towards anyone makes us sick. How can you not admire these guys? Sending my brotherly love and kisses to Chris Chu! :p

Beta Frontiers - Hondo feat. Becky Ninkovic (You Say Party!)

From 90's now to 80's! I love how music nowadays can sound like it's from a different era and stay current at the same time. Toronto-based Beta Frontiers knows exactly how to do it. Their debut EP '....' will be released April 7.

BAND CRUSH: The Ice Choir

Did I just unearth an amazing track from the early 1980's?!

Not really. Though Ice Choir's music might sound like a replicated record from the heydays of new wave years, this Brooklyn-based band makes it easier for me to appreciate the early 80's pop outfits. They released their debut single Two Rings last year and it's burning my playlist as of the moment!

I also love their song The Ice Choir which is also included in the Two Rings single. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

MUST LISTEN: Midnight City by M83

I havent been blogging for almost a week now due to some Internet connection difficulties in our area (#thirdworldproblem) and I'm missing a lot of new releases this week. One of my faves is this new track from M83 called Midnight City from their upcoming album Hurry Up, We're Still Dreaming. It seems that Anthony Gonzalez didnt waste the three years of hiatus and created a praise-worthy comeback. "Very epic" as he described it. I read some blog posts about the new material and almost everyone are raving about it. True enough, the track Midnight City sounds like something that will live up to its hype and will make the new album as another M83 gem. 

BAND CRUSH: Orange Blossom Flyover

The best way to discover new music is to constantly check my emails for bands submissions. Last night, i received an email from a one-man band from Massachusetts, USA which he call himself Orange Blossom Flyover. His music is a mixture of shoegaze, dreampop, new wave and little bit of electro. I can hear Trembling Blue Stars, Blueboy and Cocteau Twins doing a modern comeback with M83 in his repertoire. MUST LISTEN: Me & My Bicycle by Populardays

When Toti Dalmacion tweeted about his new Terno babies called Populardays, I didnt second guess that these guys would sound awesome! I dont know why they call themselves "super group" on their MySpace page (probably they are a bunch of losers by day and super heroes by night, we dont know) But what I am sure of is they make beautiful music with that indiepop shoegaze charm that's a major ear fuck. It's melodic, dreamy, airy, sunny, gloomy all rolled in one.

Me & My Bicycle is an instant favorite! Intro pa lang, I fell in love na. (Yes, Love at first hear). I can hear Keith Girdler of Blueboy in Charles Manjares' voice. I hope to catch these guys live soon and I would like to hear more of them. Go! Go! Super Shoegzers! (ang pangit lang)

MUST LISTEN: Terminally Chill by Neon Indian

If Daft Punk was making music in the 80's, this would probably how they sound. Neon Indian perfected the sound of lost nostalgia where you tend to assume that you are in the era of shoulder pads and hair-raising spray nets thus you're still stuck on the pre-extinction stage of  the earth.

Alan Palomo captures that feel in this track. Terminally Chill suits the title as it hypnotize you to a psychedelic nothingness where you can dance shyly in a hot summer sun.

MUST WATCH: 11th Dimension by Julian Casablancas

Finally, the video is out! Been waiting for this for the longest time now and it's a good way to end 2009. I love the video just as much I love the song. Julian Casablancas has a slight similarity with MGMT's Andrew VanWyngarden. Sayawan na!
