*Pretending I could understand what they're singing*

a jangly love song for a young girl...

By just looking at the band and the song title, it is obvious that this track is such a happy song.

BAND CRUSH: Foster The People

/ 22.1.11 /

I know, I know. Electro-pop is so 2008 but I couldn't help myself from making a blog entry about Foster The People. They will be releasing a three-track EP this month including their summer 2010 hit Pumped Up Kicks. I managed to find a streaming of the other two songs which is already circulating the blogosphere. The first one is Helena Beat, another surefire electro-pop anthem which sounds like Passion Pit and Empire of the Sun.  Then there's Houdini which is also a fun song with a summery feel going on. I'm looking forward for a full length album this year and hope the songs are as fun as their earlier tracks. Enjoy!

BAND CRUSH: Chasing Pluto

/ 25.12.10 /

Meet these East Londoners Jamal Hadaway and Corinne Shields whose brand of pop is in epic proportion. Chasing Pluto came from a basement act to a buzz worthy talents making the whole bloggersphere rave about their music. "Their eclectic tastes, bittersweet lyrical content and beats influenced by a myriad of genres; from dubstep, to electronic and 80s new wave, has given life to a new breed of Epic Pop music." No information about their future album yet but I am pretty sure that 2011 will be their year. Check out the tracks below and tell me which track is your fave.I also posted their new music video for the song Hold On. Merry Christmas!

NEW MUSIC: Ace of Hz by Ladytron

/ 5.11.10 /

Hardcore synthpop group Ladytron will be releasing their first single after two years of hiatus! The title of the song is Ace of Hz which you can stream below. It's not yet confirmed if it's going to be part of their Greatest Hits or their new album but the single will be out on November 30. Ace of Hz also appears in the EA Sports soccer game FIFA 11.

BAND CRUSH: My Parasol

/ 24.10.10 /

It's such a shame that I just found out about My Parasol's music recently but it's not too late to enjoy this duo's sweet sound. Thanks Ge and Kits for playing, I'm an instant fan! My Parasol is an LA-based duo that plays indie-pop infused with electronica. If Club8 and The Postal Service would do a collab, My Parasol is the end result. Mark Redito is Filipino and Susan Park is Korean and their love story is basically the foundation of this amazing act. Check out this track called Spacetalk which I am obssessively looping while writing this post. Spacetalk is such a sweet song that sends good vibes everytime you listen to it. It's one of those songs that you would want hear from someone to sing it to you and then eventually, you would both sing the chorus together and then... i don't know what's next but you get what I mean. Listen here...

There's also a fantastic remix by Diego Mapa which is a dancefloor anthem-worthy track.

They are coming up with an EP soon and I am sure it's filled with lovely tracks that will make you fall in love even though there's no one to fall in love with. You can download Spacetalk and other remixes of the song at Bandcamp. To learn more about My Parasol, if you follow their Twitter, Facebook and their official website.

P.S.: If you want to discover awesome tracks that you dont usually hear on the radio, go to The Strict Rules of Polite Society at Thank You For Today x Future, Cubao X during Wednesdays.

MUST WATCH: This Moment by French Horn Rebellion

/ 23.9.10 /

After 40 years, some new materials from these electro-poppers from NY are up and their debut album is on it's way. I cant believe that it was November of last year when I first featured French Horn Rebellion. A few weeks back, they released a new song This Moment from their upcoming debut album The Infinite Music of French Horn Rebellion.  I wasn't raving too much about this single but it's a fun song to dance with on a saturday morning while doing a general cleaning of your room.

The accompanying video of This Moment was shot during a photo shoot for a magazine and all I can see is awkwardness all over the hipster brothers' faces.

BAND CRUSH: Housse de Racket

/ 13.8.10 /

One of the bands that I'd love to watch in Paris besides Phoenix and Juctice is Housse de Racket. The electro-pop duo is releasing 2 remix EPs of their early hit Oh Yeah which includes Synthetiseur and Sur Le Papier. Love! If you haven't heard of them, they are likely compared to Phoenix and Vampire Weekend especially in their song Oh Yeah. They sing in pure French so you might wanna brush up with your français
if you wanna sing along (perfect pronunciation and enunciation is a must).

Here's the video for Oh Yeah...

 ...and Synthétiseur

Check out their MySpace for more info

MUST LISTEN: Hang With Me (single version) by Robyn

/ 21.7.10 /

Hang With Me was probably one of my favorite tracks from Robyn's Body Talk Pt. 1. With its stripped out and heart pouring melody, it's an unexpected ballad track to close an electro-dance filled album. The new version of it appears in Body Talk Pt.2 which is totally different from the earlier version. It's dancey and synth-full, electropop jam close to everybody's fave With Every Heartbeat. I don't know which one's better but it goes well to any mood you have.

Here's the first version from Body Talk Pt. 1:

and here's the single version from Body Talk Pt. 2

MUST WATCH: Celestica by Crystal Castles

/ 23.6.10 /
Crystal Castles continues to "gothify" their image with their newest music video for Celestica. This is my favorite from all of the leaked tracks that will be included in their sophomore self-titled album. It still has that dark elctro sound induced with melodies and catchy beats.

This music video is pretty much dark and has that goth imagery going on. It's just refreshing to see Alice Glass in a very contained state. I like her better on stage, though. That girl knows how to get crazy and i love it.

BAND CRUSH: Turbo Goth

/ 17.5.10 /

Urbandictionary.com defines Turbo Goth as a type of nu-goth or cyber goth that dances like a robot, wears cyberdog clothes and waves glowsticks. In my dictionary, Turbo Goth is an electro pop act that dances crazily, wears stylish clothes and their sound is glowsticks wave-worthy.

Turbo Goth's brand of electro pop is hypnotic, catchy and effortless to hear. Although their name implies dark and gothic, their sound has that hope-for-the-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel effect. Don't be fooled by Sarah Gaugler's tattoos and Amy winehouse eye liner, she sings beautifully and dreamy which reminds me of Kathy from Daydream Cycle. The other half of this hip band, Paolo Peralta, enters my stylish guys list with his Londoner style. I love how he put things together and his effort in presenting himself stylishly even in this hot weather. You gotta watch them live. Their crazy performance will blow you away and you'll thank God for making you a human and not a stage or a musical instrument coz these guys can go crazy.

They were used be under Lilystar Records but the website says Turbo Goth's contract has expired and no words yet if they're signing up another one. Hmm...Well for now, you can enjoy this music video of their first single 'Morning Swin' and you'll see why Turbo Goth is a major Band Crush.

MUST LISTEN: Mic Check by Hadouken!

/ 14.4.10 /

Having a house rager? This new track from Hadouken! might tear-off the roof of your house coz once it's played, i bet you everybody will be dancing. Mic Check is part of their new album For The Masses and I'm loving it to death! If you like Prodigy and Asian Dub Foundation, Mic Check would make your pants wet.

MUST LISTEN: Sleep Paralysist by Neon Indian

/ 11.3.10 /

Let's have a natural high for a moment and start listening to the new track of this one man-psychedelic lo-fi melody maker Alan Palomo, aka Neon Indian. Guys from the Grizzly Bear contributed some mixing and mastering work for this particular track.

Ayan...it's sinking na... @_@

MUST WATCH: 11th Dimension by Julian Casablancas

/ 30.12.09 /
Finally, the video is out! Been waiting for this for the longest time now and it's a good way to end 2009. I love the video just as much I love the song. Julian Casablancas has a slight similarity with MGMT's Andrew VanWyngarden. Sayawan na!
